Genesis Dental Care
The Yorkshire and Humberside Community Dentistry Association (YHCDA) is a new NHS provider, committed to delivering first class, affordable dental services to local communities. YHCDA, trading as Genesis Dental Care, has been formed to provide NHS dental services to deprived areas affected by privatisation.
The model for Genesis has already been successfully developed in the East Midlands. This was the first not-for-profit organisation to provide NHS dentistry in the country and since it was set up in 2005, it has successfully delivered services and secured several significant contracts.
This success led to the development of Genesis Dental Care in Yorkshire and Humberside and the identification of two practices that the organisation plans to buy in Sheffield. These two practices were valued at £606,000. Genesis had secured 60% of this amount from The Royal Bank of Scotland, as well as some working capital.
In August 2007 the Key Fund contributed £121,000 towards the balance. The support consisted of a £35,000 grant and a loan of £86,000. This funding will help to finance the acquisition of two practices that otherwise might have turned private, and will therefore help to provide affordable dental care for the community. The funding will also create 12 new jobs and safeguard 24 existing jobs.
