Doncaster based Higher Rhythm Recording Studio has gone from an amateur studio to a highly regarded Social Enterprise. They are a not-for-profit company with a mission to provide access to high-quality creative services for all. The studio also deliver accredited learning, training and creative services with a focus on making services available to socially and economically disadvantaged people.
Higher Rhythm have also recently developed a number of new activities including a community radio station called SINE FM, an independent record label for emerging local artists, and ‘Doncaster Music Week’; a week long programme of cultural events that attracted over 600 people in seven days. After this success Higher Rhythm developed a year long programme of gigs, featuring up and coming local artists, called ‘Doncaster Music Week Extra’; each of which are now attracting over 200 people.
Higher Rhythm initially used a website to control the reservation of tickets for Doncaster Music Week Extra. However, as the popularity of these events increased, Higher Rhythm became eager to re-design the site to cope with the increased traffic and also offer an e-commerce platform providing the facility for tickets to be purchased online. In July 2008, Key Fund Yorkshire awarded Higher Rhythm with a loan and grant package of £5,000 allowing them to commission the help needed to develop one of their websites.
Higher Rhythm are now regarded as a regional example of good practice having been shortlisted in two categories for the SEYH Awards 2007, for a 2008 Biz Award and are semi-finalists in the National Lottery 2008 awards.
