Accessible Arts Ltd

Accessible Arts is a social enterprise that aims to make the arts more accessible to disabled and socially or economically excluded people in and around York. They promote and provide opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in arts and cultural activities either as audience members; through attending galleries, theatres, museums and festivals; or as participants in art, drama, music, dance and multimedia activities; and by developing as professional artists.

Accessible Arts approached the Key Fund in February 2008 for support with the costs of a merger between themselves and Cube Media Ltd. Accessible Arts have a close working relationship with Cube Media, a progressive community and New Media Centre in York, and they both share many of the same aims and objectives. Both organisations have been working collaboratively for 15 years now, undertaking a unique range of pioneering projects and activities. Cube Media also has a trading subsidiary called Cube Media Trading Ltd.

In an effort to combat the spiralling costs of running two separate organisations, Cube Media is being wound up with its assets being transferred into the new company. The new company will also take over all the charitable work of Cube Media.

At the beginning of March 2008 the Key Fund supported Accessible Arts with a £10,000 support package to help with the merger, including redesigning websites, redesigning and printing letterheads, information packs and show reels, and covering accountancy costs.
