Micky B’s Community Café

Ten people from the Thorne and Moorends area of Doncaster are being given the chance to gain new skills, thanks to the expansion plans of a local community café.

Micky B’s Breakfast Club was set up in September 2004 to provide cheap and healthy breakfasts to children in the Thorne and Moorends area.  It soon became clear that there was sufficient demand to extend opening hours, and in April 2008, Micky B’s will move into a new purpose-built venue to become a community café.

The Key Fund provided a Global Grant of £9,983 for the recruitment and training costs of ten unemployed local people to work in the café.  They are undertaking accredited training in Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and First Aid, and will also be supported in moving towards paid employment or further training opportunities.

The grant from the Key Fund is helping Micky B’s become a sustainable community café, and is giving local unemployed people the chance to gain valuable skills and self-esteem.
